This is the Museum’s first survey of contemporary glass in 40 years, featuring artists from around the globe whose works range from large-scale installations and delicate miniatures to video and experiments in glass chemistry. William Morris, even after his retirement in , has a special place in the history of modern sculpture in glass. His anthropological empathy, his respect for communal ancestors and civilizations long past, and his uncanny ability to make glass look like everything except, well, glass, certainly created a profound body of work that continues to fascinate audiences.
On Saturday, , the landmark museum survey exhibition "New Glass Now" will kick off at The Corning Museum of Glass with a museum-members' premier, artist talks, and an evening party to celebrate the long awaited ing work made over the last three years, the exhibition includes work by artists of 32 nationalities, hailing from more than 25 countries. Frantz’s book, Contemporary Glass: A World Survey from The Corning Museum of Glass (Harry N. Abrams, Inc. New York, ), remains a primary reference in the field. In she was awarded the Henry Allen Moe Prize for writing of distinction in the arts by the New York Historical Association.

When I started working for The Corning Museum of Glass inI joined the Curatorial Department and would stay there for the next 27 years. I provided administrative support for the curators and was—and still am—the coordinator for the annual New Glass Review publication. As the New Glass Review coordinator, I have been very fortunate to meet many artists that come to Corning.
These qualities can be seen in the Ben W. Heineman Sr. Family Gallery of Contemporary Glass, which exists in the original Harrison building. Visitors to the campus also will recognize Harrison’s signature architecture in the glass block, vitrolite and glazed brick building, known as “B Building,” that houses The Studio (across from the main Museum building) and in the nearby Corning.
